THE TRIUMPH OF AMERICAN FREEDOM, FOR THE NEW-YEAR, 1781.
'Tis freedom's voice we hear!
It welcomes in the Year,
While symphonious notes sweetly roll along,
The Sons of honour rise,
And the propitious skies,
Look smiling down and listen to their Song.
[2nd verse]
Fame's shrillest trumpet sounds,
Th' inspiring voice resounds,
To ev'ry realm, strikes ev'ry human ear,
The pleasing accent rolls,
Until th' echoing poles,
Repeat the sound and men and angels hear.
. . . [4 verses]
Musick's seraphick charms,
The noblest passion warms,
While kindling raptures play thro' all our veins,
Our moments sweetly roll,
Spread sunshine o'er the soul,
Nymphs, with pleasing songs, join the dancing swains.
. . . [1 verse]
Fame's silver trumpet sounds,
The symphony resounds,
To ev'ry clime, strikes ev'ry human ear,
The sweetest accent rolls,
Until th' echoing poles,
Repeat the sound and men and angels hear.
[signed] A Soldier.
